Congratulations! I am so proud of you for being the first person in your family to pursue a college degree. Thank you for choosing Texas State University for this exciting chapter in your life’s story. I know how hard you worked to get here and what this means for you, your family, friends, and community.

I was a first-gen college student. I didn’t dream that I would ever attend college, much less become a university president. But thanks to the support of my family, mentors, and some compassionate teachers (and a lot of hard work), I now have the great honor of leading one of the nation’s top universities.

You are joining a welcoming and supportive community of Bobcats. Over 40% of our TXST students are first-gen from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

You may be experiencing a lot of emotions about this transition. Rest assured that you are capable of being successful here. I believe in your ability to earn your degree. You have what it takes! Our faculty and staff are here to support you every step of the way. We WANT you to succeed!
