Workplace Etiquette

Before you launch into that new job or internship, take some time to assess your skills and understand the work environment.

The importance of workplace etiquette cannot be overstated. Prior to your first day, take some time to review the company website. Identify the main sections and review the information carefully. Look for the company’s mission statement, goals, achievements, values, aspirations, about us, our team, and/or news pages. Pay attention to the tone and language used. These are clues about the company culture and priorities. Once you are at the job, take some time to observe the environment and interactions among your co-workers.

Additionally, always be on time, complete assigned tasks, stay positive, be a team player, embrace differences, and keep a growth mindset. If you aren’t sure of something, be sure to ask for help.

It’s important to have a strong work ethic. You represent yourself, your family, and Texas State University.
