Short Research Profile.

Augustine Agwuele is a professor of linguistics at the department of Anthropology, Texas State University.

His scholarly interests are:

  • Phonetics
  • Language, culture, and society
  • Peoples and cultures of Africa

His research, which bisects social sciences and humanities with an applied perspective, explores how listeners make sense of incoming linguistics signals, both spoken and gestured. He explores in phonetics coarticulatory phenomenon, and in language, culture and society, he examines how cultural context informs the perception of communicative signals and their roles in societal organization. In this connection, he studies peoples and cultures of Africa, following closely Yoruba of Nigeria, AbaGusii of Kenya, and Sidamo of Ethiopia.
